Sustainable energies

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
A few days ago it was published that in the world we are already 7,000 millions of people and as most of our planet resources are limited we have to take responsibility of our natural environment for the future.

Because of this it's essential that we all work to make sustainable development a reality, because if now we use the resources without wasting them we could use them for longer.

Things we can do to improve the future of the Earth:
- Plant trees.
- Promote the use of renewable energies.
- Save water
- Prevent air pollution.

Living in a global world

Global trade versus fair trade

Are you a consumer? Click on the link below and reflect about the consequences of our standard of living. Take action, either move or be moved.

REDUCE.

This concept is very important because if we reduce we can stop a lot of environmental problems, it is simple and we can do it every day , daily, from the very moment when we wake up to when we go to bed.
Do not forget that to produce everything we buy  raw materials, water, energy, minerals, .. are needed; all these resources  might run off or need a lot of time to be renewed
There's a lot of ways for you to reduce waste, save yourself some time and money, and to take care of the Earth at the same time, for example :
  •  When you buy use your own cloth bag or shopping cart.
  •  Reduce the use of aluminum foil.
  • Use long life light bulbs
  • Buy products sold in refill packs or concentrated products
  •  Reduce energy and water.

TE OTHER SIDE OF THE CLOTHES.

Our proyect was to analyze different labels of clothes in order to know where they come from and what materials they are made up of. Examinating the labels we have observed that most of them are made up in developing countries as: China, Bangladesh, Turkey and India. Besides the raw materials are produced in many different countries, if we consider this and the problem of clothes distribution that means more transport and pollution. Our conclusion is that we should  buy things that are produced in our country because it coulf help to can reduce pollution and save energy.

What can you do to save water? GO GREEN. TAKE ACTION!!!!

'Water is not a gift from our ancestors but a loan from our descendents'
There is the same amount of water on Earth today as there was when the dinosaurs

roamed. And just less than one percent of the planet's water is available to meet the daily drinking water, sanitation and food needs of nearly 7 billion people and millions of other species. Learn more about water in all its forms and how you can make a difference.

Investigate different ways of saving water through this funny game.

Design a poster to display at least five tips to save water. Remember, water permeates every aspect of our lives. The issues range from rivers and oceans, climate change, pollution, alternative energy to poverty, human rights, gender discrimination and basic, clean, drinking water.
Remember...
That's time for us to do something!!!!!

Song about recycling.

One of our favourite activities in Jaca was to create songs about "Recycling".
The next are the lyrics of one of them:

Recycling.
We put the plastic in the yellow bin,
And the bottles, in the green.
And also...
We put the paper in the yellow bin,
It's good for you, and also for me!

Activities in Jaca.

It has been a wonderful week in Jaca.
This is a recopilation of the activities for you to know what we have been doing:
When we arrived Jaca we met all the monitors that were going to teach us and also, we met people from Alcorcón. They looked very friendly!
The first day, we did a trip to Panticosa.
We saw a lot of plants and animals in the forest, it was really interesting!
After lunch, we went to the village and the monitors proposed us to make a Gymkana.
It was really funny!!
And at night we celebrated Halloween.
We all enjoyed a lot that day.
The second day, the classes started, they divided us in four groups.
We all went to have lessons and then we went to the cafeteria to have lunch.
Then we went to the forest and finally at night, we make our "all together", we played a game  to be familiar with the names of everybody else.
The third day, we had also lessons and as it was raining we coudn't play outside but we learnt how to make bracelets. Finally in  "all together" we practiced some Yoga.
The fourth day some groups went to the forest in the morning and other groups went to the forest in the afternoon. In the night, we sang some songs that we had been preparing about recycling.
The fifth day, we had lessons and we made some T-shirts and also practiced our show for the " Talent Show".
At night, we presented some posters about " Food Chain" and we practiced Yoga.
The last day we had lessons and the teachers gave us the T-shirts.
Then, we had lessons with our high school teachers and we did a debate for  "All together"
Finally we enjoyed the talent show, and a party,
It was really a striking experience!!!

It has been a wonderful week!!!!

Reuse, for a better world.

When we want to protect our environment we have to follow the 3R's rules, these are: recycling, reducing and reusing.
Human beings produce a great amount of waste along their lives and this is quite dangerous for the environment because we pollute air, water, land, plants and we cause damage to other animals and people.
Reuse is using materials and things after we have already used them. Now, is quite common to use things just once, for example, if we are thirsthy we buy a bottle of water, if we need a hankerchief, we use a disposable one, if we have a baby we use four disposable diapers a day and if we go shopping we come back home with a lot of plastic bags with us. That's not the proper way to deal with environment. If we want to behave responsibly we need to use things as many times as we can and not just once.

¿Do we live in a global world?

After analysing different labels, we had work out the conclusion that most of the clothes are made in developping countries, most of them in Asian countries like China. Among the brands that do this are usually the most important ones as Adidas.

Most of our food comes from developed countries like the  European ones; but others come from certain regions of the world,  because the climate characteristics are special and the plants can only grow there, for example coffe.

Games is a very controversial topic because some games are made in developing countries, like China, for example transformer toys, and others are made on developed countries like Germany, for example lego toys; but videogames are always made on developed countries like Japan or United States, for example Mario Galaxy.

We had a conclusion that between the clothes, food and games, we live in a unglobal world because most of the products we use are made in developping countries.

Reduce to save the world!!

We can help the world by using less energy or resources in order to protect our environment;  for example:
When we brush our teeth we waste much water; to change that we could put off the tap, this way we can save many litres of water. Another  important course of action is to use less times the car, if so we won’t pollute the world and we will save oil. Also we can put off the light when and where it is not needed, then we will save a lot of energy.

Recycle

To recycle is to put diferent tipe of things in specific containers. When,
something like batteries has not a container,  you have to
throw it in a" punto limpio".

Everybody should recycle because it is good for the enviroment.

In jaca we did many things about recycling as for instance songs games and many
more funny activities.

Reuse

Reuse means to use one thing more than one time. This helps the environment to stay stable.
It is one of the three Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle), three basic courses of action to preserve our environment.
We can reuse in many different ways:
- Dirty waters  can be reused to water the plants.
 - Shopping bags from supermarkets can be used as garbage bags.
- Yogurt containers are usseful pots to plant seeds.
- When writing use both sides of sheets.
- When buying new mobile phones the old ones can be used by one member of our family or other friends ....

And, you, Do you reuse things? Help us to save our planet.

ENDANGERED SPECIES

There are a lot of endangered species, biodiversity is decreasing each year,
this is a list of the most common endangered animals and what are the causes of their extinction:
Iberian lynxes, African tigers, wolves and foxes are almost extinct, people catch them for its fur.
Pandas are in risk because of deforestation, the  cutting down of trees is destroying its habitat.

Elephants are endangered animals because people catch them for their tusk.

Let's contribute to their protection, do not buy things made up of animal fur.

Irene Laura Climent y Sara Marina Hernández.

RECYCLE

You must recycle because it is good for the enviroment, the nature, for the earth and for you.
To recycle you should put the rubbish in the specific container:
Plastic in the yellow container
Paper in the blue container
Clothes in the black container
Batteries in a special container
Glass in the green container
Organic things in the grey container
Oil in a special container
In Pueyo de Jaca we made posters and songs about recycling, explaining how to recycle and what you should  do  to preserve our planet.
So, RECYCLE, please

The other side of globalisation, the invisible children, stop child labour

An estimated 246 million children are engaged in child labour. Nearly 70 per cent of these children work in hazardous conditions – including working in mines, working with chemicals and pesticides in agriculture or with dangerous machinery. They are everywhere, but invisible, toiling as domestic servants in homes, labouring behind the walls of workshops, hidden from view. Millions of girls are especially vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. Millions of others work under horrific circumstances. They may be are trafficked (1.2million), forced into debt bondage or other forms of slavery (5.7 million), forced into prostitution and/or pornography (1.8 million) or recruited as child soldiers in armed conflict (300,000). Carry out a research and design a poster to campaign against child labour, you should include figures or statistics besides a catching slogan and a picture.

CAMP EVALUATION

How did you like your camp?

In the cafeteria listening the rules
First night playing a game

Second day, trip to Panticosa

Third day, Canadian workshop, dream catchers

 Gymkhana in Panticosa

Quinta Vista Alegre, a haunted house

Two centuries ago, there was a family with two children and a nanny living in the house, the nanny’s name was Celina. Celina took care of the children. One day Celina went to the river, she was walking the boys in their stroller and stopped by the river to read a book. Suddenly, the stroller fell into the river; Celina ran quickly to save them but she couldn’t and all of them died.
The bodies were never rescued and legend has it that Celina and the children live in the house, you even might hear Celina playing the piano during full moon nights.

Our experience in Pueyo de Jaca

It’s  one of our best experiences in life because we have met new friends from Alcorcon and we participate in really funny activities as commemorating Halloween or playing games and making dream catchers in the Canadian workshop. We have learnt a lot of things: the geography, vegetation and animals of Canada; how to recycle and many, many new words.
The food is not bad at all; we have breakfast at 9, lunch at 2 and dinner around 9. We have three breaks along the day and after dinner we play games or do yoga. Finally we have a shower and go to bed, it’s nearly 12, a long, long day…

JOURNEY TO PUEYO DE JACA

The journey from Avila to Pueyo de Jaca was very exhausting and tiring. We left our city at half past eight, everybody was carrying enormous suitcases. The bus was big, comfortable and luxury. Everybody was really nervous. We said goodbye to our parents, and we got into the bus, the trip had just began. The first hours were funny, and when we reached Alcorcon we met the students from the high school “Galileo Galilei”. They were really friendly. Between Madrid and Zaragoza we made our first stop to eat our sandwiches. In our way to Zaragoza we saw a film called “School or Rock”. We stopped another time, but now in Zaragoza to relax for a while. We even had time to watch another film, “Big Fish”, and a few hours later we arrived at Pueyo de Jaca. We were very tired.

GYMKHANA IN PANTICOSA

After lunch, the monitors proposed us to play a game. We played in teams and our task was to take photos of fifteen places that they have chosen before. The group arriving the first to the park (our meeting point) would win. Among other things, we had to found the bakery, the statue next to the church, the oldest bridge in the town, animals in the village, the Irish pub, three springs, the town hall, pictures of animals in the town, a tree with fruits…It took us forty-five minutes. Eventually two groups won. It was very funny and we enjoyed it a lot.
